We believe in affecting change, creating awareness and shifting mindsets, changing the way in which production takes place to ensure environmentally responsible and sustainable filmmaking. We realise that film can be energy intensive, an often makes use of unsustainable practices. We aim to rectify this and set a new benchmark in sustainable film production.
At work we limit the impact in our office by practically implementing:
- A paperless environment with remote file sharing to access computers so no printing needed as well as a central server to reduce the need for individual hard drives in the editing process.
- We turn off equipment and edit machines over the evenings and weekends. Our transition to digital filming and photography has allowed us to move from filming to tape and in hindsight saving thousands of old tapes finding their way to landfill sites.
- We use video conferencing and Skype calls as opposed to face to face meetings where possible, reducing the need to travel.
- We have started offset our carbon footprint by planting Spekboom. (Skekboom has remarkable rates of carbon sequestration more than 4 tons of Carbon Dioxide per year per hectare)
- We have embarked on a full energy audit, by calculating the energy used we aim to reduce consumption and lower overall carbon debt and environmental impact
- We minimizing waste, re-use and recycle material, and embark on all productions with sustainability as a core objective. African Renaissance Productions also offers their clients the opportunity to offset their environmental footprint during production as well as encouraging them to become involved in the CHANGE initiative.
African Renaissance Productions hopes to have a zero carbon footprint shortly, in addition African Renaissance Productions has pledged to use our expertise as film makers to create and help facilitate film material that will really affect CHANGE . As part of our in kind contribution we sponsor resources and donate our intellectual property to environmental causes and organisations, as well as educational facilities. We offer internship programmes for young passionate environmental filmmakers.
