African Renaissance Productions has worked closely with the enforcement directorate of the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) to create training materials for The Environmental Management Inspectorate (EMI) a network of environmental enforcement officials from different government departments (national, provincial and municipal). The Inspectorate was created when an amendment to the National Environmental Management Act, 107 of 1998 (“NEMA”) came into effect on 1 May 2005.
The training material developed was to ensure that all the different enforcement officials were trained to the same competency through experiencing "real life" filmed practical scenarios. These audio visual scenarios formed the base of the learning tools which were translate into seven languages and rolled out nationwide to affect change in environmental enforcement.
Creating audio visual training material in this manner greatly reduces the costs of one on one facilitated training. Often the best training initiatives are those where the learner is engaged and excited about what they are learning. Film can play a major role in bringing academic training material to life.
